Does it merely mean that the FBI will interview Ms. Mohammed? Did her alleged recruitment extend to the United States? If so, might the United States attempt to extradite her?
In 1998, Al Qaeda attacked a US embassy in Kenya. So we wish the FBI the best in running down any potential threat to Americans.

SANA did not say precisely how many soldiers had been killed in the attack on the government-controlled airbase outside the divided eastern city of Deir Ezzor.

The Brussels attacks left 31 people dead, while destroying a subway car and shattering the city’s international airport. Airport authorities announced Saturday that they are preparing for a “partial” reopening — but not before Tuesday, exactly a week after the attackers struck.
Abdeslam, believed to be the logistics chief of the Islamic State’s November attacks in Paris, was apprehended March 18, apparently spurring one of the Brussels attackers to write that he feared capture by the police. But after Abdeslam’s arrest, investigators concentrated solely on the Paris attacks. Abdeslam was questioned for two hours last Saturday, the day after he was captured in a raid at a Brussels safe house — and then no other discussions were held until after Tuesday’s attacks, when he refused to speak further, prosecutors said.

The U.S. captured the operative in Iraq three weeks ago, the first since a team of Special Operations forces recently began operating in northern Iraq. One official called him “the key leader,” but others could not say if he runs the entire chemical weapons program for ISIS.

A senior defense official tells NBC News that an ISIS official captured by U.S. Special Operations Forces is a chemical weapons specialist and a “key operator” in terrorist and military operations.
Defense officials identify the detainee as Sleiman Daoud al-Afari, an expert in chemical and biological weapons who formerly worked for Saddam Hussein’s regime. Thought question: Don’t you want to have your investments available to you for intra-day trading –so that any re-allocation of assets (e.g., from stocks to money market) can be made nearly instantaneously? Saving for college or retirement and focusing on this or that incentive seems to pale when compared to the risks inherent in not being able to step out of the market intra-day. Mutual funds and hedge fund advisors, of course, have a self-interest in you keeping your money fully invested — in rationalizing why, even in modern times, you should leave your money in. The argument is along the lines that you would miss the key days surging back. But it seems you should think it through on your own.
For example, consider if on 9/11, the first plane had hit 1 hour later than it did. Before the second plane hit, you could have stepped out of the market, perhaps for a total cost of $7…. then bought back in at the vastly lower price when the markets re-opened. You owe it to your kids’ education to make sound investment decisions.
You can be sure that the big money has computer systems that can and will act instantaneously.

LONDON — A team of British intelligence analysts has drawn up a chilling scenario in which terrorists launch a swarm of small drones in an attack on a major sporting event like the Super Bowl, unleashing multiple explosive devices on the crowd in the stadium.
“If we do not act to prevent it, it is only a matter of time,” Chris Abbott, the executive director of a think tank called Open Briefing, told The Daily Beast in an exclusive interview.

CIA Director John Brennan, in a CBS News “60 Minutes” interview that will air Sunday, said ISIS has “used chemical munitions on the battlefield” and can construct chlorine and mustard gas-releasing weapons.
Earlier this week, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart told the Senate Armed Services Committee that ISIS will “attempt to direct attacks on the U.S. homeland in 2016,” and that the caliphate is infiltrating the refugees fleeing the ISIS mayhem in Iraq and Syria.
At the same hearing on Tuesday, Obama’s Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said ISIS operatives are “pretty skilled at phony passports, so they can travel ostensibly as legitimate travelers,” with Syrian passport machines having been commandeered by the terrorist organization.

ABC News recently asked experts such as Michael Allswede of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and Thomas Inglesby of the Center for Civilian Biodefense Studies at Johns Hopkins University about terrorists making chemical weapons surreptitiously within the U.S.
“Because they’re relatively easy and inexpensive to manufacture, chemical weapons have long been considered ‘the poor man’s atomic bomb,’ ” they said, and “could be dispersed from a crop-dusting plane, from aerosols, or by distributing the chemical in water supplies.”

The investor.com’s IBD CANSLIM investing method promotes an elaborate system which concentrates on momentum stocks. People following the system (at least those who I know) tend to sit on the sidelines when the stock market moves sideways. Once a week I sit through several (boring) hours of technical analysis of stock charts presented by a local adherent to the system who is very generous with his time. I find the system as exciting as counting cards at blackjack (as opposed to say, dealers choice that includes high-low seven car stud poker) — and don’t consider the IBD method validated.
To be fair, the method mainly just goes over my head so I’m not a good person to judge. But I have a much simpler question. In the event of a chemical or biological WMD attack during market hours, what will be the effect? Are authorities prepared to act quickly? If not, wouldn’t it be rational to run to the computer and short an ETF? Would that be unethical?
I suspect that many employees working at national security agencies invested in defense stocks after 9/11. Is this different? I recently saw a DVD “Stock Shock” involving short sellers who profited by the precipitous decline in Sirius stock in 2009 or so. Although the same retail investors profited from the frenzy marking its rise, they then were very bitter when other people profited from its downward spiral.
Is the market morally neutral? Or would the brief shorting stocks immediately upon an ISIS or Al Qaeda WMD attack be morally heinous?
You can be sure there are computer programs set up by the major investment banks to act instantaneously. Is it only the retail investors who stand to get screwed (again)?

Al Qaeda, which ISIS broke away from, also has long sought nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons of mass destruction. Osama bin Laden declared that acquiring weapons of mass destruction was a “religious duty” in a December 1998 interview with Time Magazine. Al-Qaeda conducted poison gas experiments on dogs in Afghanistan.
Bin Laden tried to buy uranium for a nuclear device as early as 1993 and Al-Qaeda had an ambitious anthrax program that was discovered in December 2001.
Today, ISIS is following a similar path.
In November, U.S. and Iraqi intelligence officials warned that ISIS had established a branch to aggressively develop chemical weapons with the help of scientists from Iraq, Syria and elsewhere.
Comment: On this question of effect on the stock market, I think a dirty bomb would have a much greater effect on the market than something like chlorine or mustard gas — sarin would be not far behind a dirty bomb and anthrax something in-between. It seems that the markets, in such an event, should immediately be suspended.
One of the first criminal investigations should be launched should relate to the withholding and the destruction of documents relating to Amerithrax.

In contrast, I don’t know anything about ISIS/ISIL and would be hard-pressed to locate many countries and cities on a map. But I do enjoy looking at contemporaneous documents in the context of a murder mystery or treasure hunt.
And after William Pierce died, Dr. Ayman seemed the most important national security threat deserving of a hobbyist’s true crime analysis.
The trouble with analysts who do it for money, rather than enjoyment, is that they are guided mainly by the bureaucratic considerations relating to the need for a continuing paycheck. I count on making my revenue by successful Oscar prognostication. My good friend was one of the featured reporters in “Spotlight” and I’m still clueless whether “Spotlight” will overtake “Revenant.” I also greatly enjoyed “Big Short” but am as clueless on matters relating to finance and stocks, no matter how much I read.
It seems a safe conclusion, though, that DC and NYC are going to be attacked. And I don’t need John Brennan’s army of analysts to reach the same conclusion he’s reached.

Tomorrow I will look for reliable sourcing on a thwarted planned chemical attack in Morocco. Sulfur fertilizer used in association with a bomb. Some of the articles also refer to biological substances. One mentions tetanus.
But I don’t see that much is added. Just as a car bomb is pointless and accomplishes nothing — a car bomb with some fertilizer thrown in is also pointless.

I don’t understand CIA director’s comment that ISIS “could seek to export the weapons to the West for financial gain.” I most definitely understand financial gain as a sole or dual motive but am not understanding the reference in this context.
It’s like the 16-year-old who is learning that posting the names of 20,000 FBI agents was a crime that didn’t make much sense in terms of the risk-reward.
