KSM says this about the laptop:

“This computer is not for me. Is for Hawsawi himself. So I’m saying I need Hawsawi because me and him we both been arrested day. Same way. So this computer is from him long time.”

After KSM’s capture (which authorities claim occurred on March 1, 2003), we learned that Adnan El-Shukrijumah HAD in fact come to the US.

After 911, FBI officials say he was living in Miami under the alias Jaafaral al-Tayyar. In March 2003, NBC reported that Mohammed Atta’s associate “El Shukrijumah has used at least a half-dozen aliases, including Jaafaral al-Tayyar, the name he was living under in Miami, the officials said.”

The FBI should disclose all that is known about Atta’s whereabouts in 2001. We know he called his mother on or about 9/13/2001 and told her he was coming to the US. We know at the time he was living with KSM, who also for 6 days lived with Yazid Sufaat. Yazid described his work with virulent anthrax and had earlier briefed Zawahiri and Hambali over the course of a week.

The FBI has said that it could exclude everyone else who might possibly have mailed the anthrax. Well, the GAO has been tasked by Congress to check its work.

The FBI should disclose all the documents relating to El-Shukrijumah what is known of his travels in 2001 so that the public can verify the claim by the United States Attorney, who was mistaken about so many other central points in that press conference (i.e., the lyophilized), was mistaken on this issue also.

After the anthrax mailings, Adnan El-Shukrijumah then lived with Al-Hawsawi in Karachi in the Spring of 2002. He was KSM’s assistant who had the anthrax spraydrying documents on his laptop.

KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN IN U.S.

The officials who spoke with NBC News said El Shukrijumah was known
to have been in the United States since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11,
2001, living for a time in Miami. His whereabouts now are not known.
Federal agents on Thursday raided a home where the suspect was last
known to have lived and interviewed his brother, Nabil …

The law enforcement bulletin described El Shukrijumah as 27, about
5-foot-4 and 132 pounds or heavier and said he may or may not have a beard.
Although born in Saudi Arabia, El Shukrijumah carries a Guyana
passport and could attempt to enter the United States with a Saudi, Canadian
or Trinidad passport as well, the FBI says. The officials said it was not
immediately known how he had entered the country.
El Shukrijumah has used at least a half-dozen aliases, including
Jaafaral al-Tayyar, the name he was living under in Miami, the officials
said. He also speaks English fluently, they said.

Suspect linked to ‘dirty bomb’ plot?

    Fri Mar 21, 2003 10:35 pm |

NBC’s Pete Williams says FBI officials fear that Adnan G. El Shukrijumah
could be “another Mohammed Atta,” referring to the ringleader of the Sept.
    11 hijackers.

    NBC, MSNBC AND NEWS SERVICES

WASHINGTON, March 21 — A Saudi man being sought by the FBI because
he may be plotting terrorist attacks against U.S. targets has been linked to
Jose Padilla, an American citizen charged with plotting to detonate a
radiological “dirty bomb” in the United States, a federal law enforcement
    official said Friday.

THE OFFICIAL, who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of
anonymity, said information that Adnan G. El Shukrijumah may be planning a
“major attack” came from Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, al-Qaida’s chief
operational planner who was arrested March 1 in Pakistan.

Information recovered after Mohammed’s capture includes references to
Padilla and El Shukrijumah, who at one time lived near each other in the
Miami area, according to the official.

The FBI previously has said that Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of
the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, met with
Padilla in early 2002. Padilla was arrested last May as an “enemy combatant”
and is in federal custody, charged with plotting a “dirty bomb” attack in
    Washington, DC.

A month after Padilla’s arrest on May 8, 2002, as he flew from
Pakistan into Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Attorney General John
Ashcroft said authorities had obtained information indicating he was
involved in a plot to detonate a so-called “dirty bomb” — a radiological
dispersion device — in the United States. When detonated, such a bomb would
disburse radioactive gamma rays into the environment, potentially killing or
sickening a large number of people.

    FBI ISSUES BULLETIN
The FBI on Thursday asked police, the public and authorities around
the world to be on the lookout for El Shukrijumah.
“The United States has information indicating he may be involved in
al-Qaida and may pose an imminent threat to U.S. interests at home or
overseas,” said a bulletin sent to law enforcement agencies around the
    world.
Law enforcement officials who spoke with NBC News described El
Shukrijumah as a suspected al-Qaida operative with pilot training and said
he may be in the United States and planning a “major attack.”
One official, who like the others spoke on condition of anonymity,
said authorities fear the man could be “another Mohammed Atta.”
Word of the search for El Shukrijumah came as U.S. authorities were
on a heightened alert for possible terrorist attacks tied to the beginning
    of the war in Iraq.

KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN IN U.S.

The officials who spoke with NBC News said El Shukrijumah was known
to have been in the United States since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11,
2001, living for a time in Miami. His whereabouts now are not known.
Federal agents on Thursday raided a home where the suspect was last
known to have lived and interviewed his brother, Nabil …

passport and could attempt to enter the United States with a Saudi, Canadian
or Trinidad passport as well, the FBI says. The officials said it was not

El Shukrijumah has used at least a half-dozen aliases, including
Jaafaral al-Tayyar, the name he was living under in Miami, the officials
said. He also speaks English fluently, they said.
The FBI alert did not specify the nature of the threats El
Shukrijumah, nicknamed “Jaafaral the Pilot,” may pose to U.S. interests.
But the officials who spoke with NBC News said his pilot training
raises the possibility that he might be planning an airborne attack similar
to that carried out by Atta, the ringleader of the 19 hijackers who carried
out the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

One FBI official, who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of
anonymity, said El Shukrijumah only recently came to the agency’s attention,
but the official did not say how.

El-Shukrijumah was taught by Ramzi Binaldshibh — whose code name was Jenny.

After travelling to NYC to DC at the instruction of KSM in 2001, he then hid in Karachi safehouses with KSM’s assistant Al-Hawsawi, who had the laptop with anthrax spraydrying documents on it.

That laptop contained instructions involving a spraydryer. A decade ago the sales rep on the East Coast for the mini-spradryer, which long could do a uniform 1 micron particle — said it was impossible to get rid of the charge because of the speed within which the powder came out the nozzle.

Code was used in the letters — but it was not the made-up code offered by the FBI in its “Ivins Theory.” It was the code known to have been used by Atta, Ramzi Bin Al Shibh, and Ayman Zawahiri.

Compare, for example, the FBI’s ridiculous theory as to why Greendale School was used under its Ivins Theory. Instead, school was known to be used by Zawahiri in 2001 for his and Atef’s group.

Amerithrax represents the greatest counterintelligence failure in the history of the United States because the threat is still ongoing — and the FBI closed the Amerithrax investigation.

The FBI should release the film of Atta and his colleagues doing the xeroxing and cutting at Kinkos on 9/8/2001.

Al-Hawsawi can address the anthrax spraydrying documents on his laptop. (KSM says it was his assistant’s laptop). But we probably won’t learn of details relating to anthrax from the Gitmo trial given the censorship and 40 second time delay. (They have taken steps even to avoid lip-reading).

Instead, if Yazid’s lawyers are complaining that the reasons for the detention are not detailed in advance of trial, then maybe he should come forward with the reasons. It is ironic that the due process complaint by a defendant in such cases is really just that the government is not telling the public the reason the defendant is being prosecuted. All the while, the defendant likely knows (and commonly defendants do not share with their counsel).

Yazid’s arrest linked to Philippine shooting?

GUANTANAMO BAY, CUBA — Pentagon officials preparing for next month’s arraignment of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other accused terrorists charged with plotting the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, are expecting about 600 journalists to apply for the 60 spaces available for members of the media at Guantanamo Bay’s Camp Justice.

The military has not yet begun accepting credentials requests for the KSM arraignment, which is scheduled to begin on May 5, but one Pentagon public affairs official already received 100 inquires from press.

To understand the anthrax mailings and the timing of the letters to Senator Leahy and Senator Daschle, it is important to understand al-Hawsawi’s background — and who he knew from Khartoum when Bin Laden was based there and Mahjoub was manager of the farm there.

To not think that Senator Leahy would be targeted because he was liberal is really uninformed — ignorant even.

Documents from August 2001 show that the “Leahy Law” — relating to continued appropriations notwithstanding mistreatment by security forces where there are “extraordinary circumstances” — was very important to the salafist-jihadis and central to their reason announced in Spring 1999 that Dr. Ayman would be using anthrax in the future.

Note that Al-Marri’s indictment explains al-Hawsawi’s numerous other financial and phone contacts with Atta and the hijackers — and the phone records connect biochem operative Al-Marri also with al-Hawsawi. Any suggestion that there were no other operatives in the US is very uninformed — extremely ignorant. But it is Adnan El-Shukrijumah and Abderraouf Jdey who are of the most keen interest. (My interest in Al-Marri mainly centered on who he sent his computer to in Washington upon leaving the country).

Phone and Credit Files Link Student Held in New York to 3 Terrorism Figures

By JO THOMAS with CHRISTOPHER DREW

PEORIA, Ill — A Bradley University graduate student from Qatar who was arrested in January may have links through telephone records to three men named as conspirators in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to documents unsealed in federal court here.

The student, Ali Salem Kahleh al-Marri, is being held in New York on charges of unlawful possession of more than 15 credit cards, found on Dec. 11 in a search of his two-bedroom apartment in West Peoria. Neighbors said he was married and had small children. The landlord said the family had left the apartment.

An affidavit in support of the search warrant for the apartment provided a glimpse of possible connections between Mr. Marri, one of hundreds of people questioned in the terrorist inquiry, and Mohamed Atta, ringleader of the hijackers; Ramzi Muhammad Abdullah bin al-Shibh, a Yemeni who Americans apparently believe was at one time intended to be the 20th hijacker; and Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, identified by investigators as a pivotal money provider for the hijackers.

About Sept. 23, the affidavit says, someone used a calling card at a pay phone here to try to call the same number in the United Arab Emirates that Mr. Atta gave Federal Express as a contact for a package that he sent there on Sept. 4 from the United States. The package was addressed to Almohtaram, Arabic for the respected one, the affidavit said. Mr. Atta’s phone calling card had also been used for calls to that number.

Someone else, unnamed in the affidavit, also used that number as a contact for a wire transfer of money on Sept. 3 to Mr. Shibh, who, officials say, also gave the hijackers money.

Five days later, Mr. Hawsawi provided that same number on a cash withdrawal slip from his account at the Standard Chartered Bank in the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Hawsawi, the affidavit says, had access to the account to which Mr. Atta and another hijacker, Marwan al-Shehhi, wired money shortly before Sept. 11.

The affidavit said the calling card used in trying to call the emirates on Sept. 23 was used again, on Sept. 27, by someone trying to call from Mr. Marri’s cellular phone. The same card was used again, on Oct. 14, to try to call the number in the United Arab Emirates from a pay telephone at a gasoline station in Springfield, Ill.

Another call to that number was tried on Nov. 4 from a pay phone at the Summit Hotel in Chicago by someone who was using a different calling card, one also used that day from Mr. Marri’s house. Mr. Marri told investigators that he did not know Mr. Hawsawi and that he did not call the number in the United Arab Emirates.

Richard Jasper Jr., Mr. Marri’s lawyer in the credit card case, emphasized that Mr. Marri had not been charged with any crime related to terrorism. Mr. Jasper said that the search of the apartment “obviously didn’t shed any light” on any connection and that the F.B.I. had no proof that Mr. Marri was using the calling cards to make the calls.

“I don’t know what an attempted call is,” the lawyer said, asking whether that meant that a busy signal or that a call did not go through. “That could mean that any number of inferences could be drawn that don’t have any malice aforethought.”

Mr. Marri was a Bradley student from 1987 until 1991, when he graduated with a B.S., a spokeswoman for the university, Kathleen Conver, said. He enrolled for the fall term last year as a graduate student in computer science.

As for Moussaoui, his letter of introduction, posted earlier this week, was from the anthrax lab head Yazid Sufaat, and the one providing him money was Hawsawi, the fellow with the scanned anthrax production documents on his laptop. The FBI kept secret for over a decade that at the same time Moussaoui was detained (and they didn’t get into this laptop containing the cropdusting material), Jdey was detained with bio books… and Jdey was released. How can Dr. Majidi say that Jdey was excluded if Dr. Majidi has no idea where Jdey was in September and October 2001? (once the FBI released him) Go ahead… ask him.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Plaintiff-Appellee, v. ZACARIAS MOUSSAOUI, a/k/a Shaqil, a/k/a Abu Khalid al Sahrawi, Defendant-Appellant. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF

      No. 06-4494

UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE FOURTH CIRCUIT

      591 F.3d 263

      January 4, 2010, Decided

      *********

During Phase I, the Government presented extensive evidence regarding the conspiracies alleged in the Indictment, including evidence of the activities of the 9/11 hijackers and Moussaoui in the months preceding the 9/11 attacks, the similarities between Moussaoui’s actions and those of the 9/11 hijackers, and the overlap between the al Qaeda leadership directing them all. Moussaoui also testified, confirming his participation in the conspiracies.

Moussaoui testified that al-Masri asked him to be a part of the planes operation in the winter of 1999. Moussaoui ultimately agreed and began training for his mission, which was to fly a fifth plane on 9/11 into the White House. Moussaoui specifically denied he was scheduled to be a fifth hijacker on the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania, testifying that he signed the Statement of Facts as the “20th hijacker” as “a bit of fun,” “[b]ecause everybody used to refer to [him] as the 20th hijacker.” J.A. 3877.

When sent to Malaysia to obtain flight training, Moussaoui was hosted by members of Jemaah Islamiyah (hereinafter “JI”), an al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group. Moussaoui testified that he had problems with JI [**30] when he was in Malaysia — he talked too much about his mission and was involved in an unnecessary purchase of explosives. Because of those problems, the al Qaeda leaders temporarily excluded Moussaoui from the planes operation. Although he was later re-included in the operation, his position remained under review. According to Moussaoui, time was of the essence and al-Masri told him to “just go to America” and that he would “be informed of what [he] need[ed] to know in due time.” J.A. 3954. Moussaoui testified that al-Masri told him to communicate with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (hereinafter “KSM”), the so-called “mastermind” of the planes operation.

In February 2001, Moussaoui arrived in the United States with $ 35,000 in cash and a fake business letter given to him by a JI member to use as cover for his presence in this country. He immediately traveled to Airman Flight School to begin his pilot training. Moussaoui contacted the Pan Am Flight Academy in May 2001 and was offered enrollment for $ 8,300, for classes beginning in mid-August 2001. Moussaoui sent the school a $ 1,500 deposit. Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, an al Qaeda operative, [*276] first transmitted money to Bin al-Shibh in Germany, [**31] who in turn transmitted money to Moussaoui. Moussaoui informed KSM that he would be out of jet simulator training before
