Just because the DOJ settles to keep some things from becoming public, doesn’t mean “all” the docs won’t ever find it’s way to the public some how, or way…

This issue is far from over, and the TRUTH will come out. In my educated opinion…

I for one would not settle, and hire me a better attorney if I were her to dig deeper.. Be surprised as to what can be found now days

    And this statement from above…….

“The big thing she was so pleased about was that the security protocols are so much better today than they were before,” he said. “This country is far safer than it was.”

The wool has been pulled over your eyes, because as things may be “somewhat” safer. They are NOWHERE near what and how things SHOULD BE…

More anal/reckless than safer “if” those were my words.

Don’t settle… That alone shows that lies and shielding information can be bought,

If your husband were alive Mrs. Stevens, would he have settled? I bet not… Me personally….. I urge you to reconsider…. You may have a load of money, but you will NEVER be truly happy until you or anyone who’s intimately involved knows the TRUTH and ALL the FACTS…

Who all has the Army given deadly viruses and bacteria to? What would one think if the public found out that they were sending deadly things to terrorist and so called enemies of the US..via the CIA along with DCIG Would ones opinion change then?

From a world wide public pov since the military plays god with this mess and weaponizes for someones unilateral war wet dream in the pentagon, doesn’t the entire pupulation have the right to buy and have all the safety equipment incase the army and cia start playing games again?
The US governement started all this mess and did not care about anyone but themselves.. Now the piper has to be paid so to speak & the public is fighting back…
    What comes around Goes around

WEST PALM BEACH — Lantana widow Maureen Stevens has settled a $50 million lawsuit with the federal government over deadly anthrax letter bombs that killed her husband and four others while the nation was still reeling from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Jason Weisser, one of her attorneys, said he couldn’t divulge the terms of the settlement until it is formally approved by the U.S. Justice Department. The accord, he said, was hashed out last week during a mediation session with government attorneys.

Less than a month ago, Stevens said she wanted the case to go to trial in January. “I want it out in the open. I want it known how it happened,” she told a Palm Beach Post reporter for a story that ran on the 10-year anniversary of tabloid photo editor Robert Steven’s Oct. 5, 2001 death.

Weisser said he, too, would have liked a public airing of the what he called lax security at the government research lab in Maryland that handles some of the deadliest agents in the world, including anthrax. The trial, he said, would have also tested the FBI’s much-criticized claims that the attacks were carried out solely by Bruce Ivins, a researcher at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases. Ivins killed himself by overdosing on Tylenol in July 2008, days before agents said he was to be charged in connection with the attacks that also hit Congressional offices in Washington, D.C. and news outlets in New York City.

Still, Weisser said, the settlement is a good one.

“The big thing she was so pleased about was that the security protocols are so much better today than they were before,” he said. “This country is far safer than it was.”

And, he said, it’s because of Steven’s resolve not to have her husband’s still inexplicable death mean nothing.

Stevens inhaled anthrax when opening the mail at American Media Inc., in Boca Raton, the home of the National Enquirer and other publications. The British-born Stevens worked for the tabloid The Sun.

A spokesman for the U.S. Justice Department declined comment on the settlement.

Comment: Nonsense. If the plaintiff wanted the documents and information, the plaintiff would not have sought sealing orders. Those orders were by the consent of the parties and grossly overbroad in violation of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26(c). They were just rubberstamped by the District Court judge who signed the orders proposed by the parties. A key one permitted the sealing of information not covered by protective orders at all — just for the convenience of the parties… so that they did not have to bother only sealing what was subject to a protective order. The way it is supposed to be is that those deposition pages stamped as subject to an order are subject — that that are not are not.

Taxpayers once again get the bill and government negligence is swept under the rug by reason of overbroad sealing orders and noncompliance with FOIA.

This same scenario plays out regularly in the area of products liability and as a result unsafe products are kept on the market.

But if it makes the parties and attorneys feel better by saying that they would have liked the documents to be out in the open, then fine. We’ll all know that actions speak louder than words. All we need to do is see the FBI refuse to provide the contemporaneous documents showing the details of Dr. Ivins work with the rabbits on the dates that the USG speculated, without basis, that he was making a powdered anthrax.

The federal court system is broken.

      FOIA is broken.
