CASE CLOSED … what really happened in the 2001 anthrax attacks?

* Marwan Hadid al-Suri, who was assisting Yazid Sufaat at Omar Hospital in May 2001 and then helped set up the anthrax lab in Kandahar later that month, was killed in 2006 in northwestern Pakistan. Marwan al-Suri, 38, was said to be a close aide of al-Qaida No. 2 Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Dr. Majidi, in his book on the Fall 2001 anthrax mailings, writes:

“Because of the national focus on al Qaeda and their undesirable desire to harm the United States, the FBI knew it was imperative to run down every microscopic led that even had a tenuous connection to this terrorist group. The FBI was aware that al Qaeda was seeking to establish an offensive bioweapons program in 2001; however, the status of their capability was unclear at the time of the attacks.”

Right. That’s why the FBI failed to arrange Rauf Ahmad and Yazid Sufaat’s presence in the United States. Instead, the Administration tried to suggest Saddam had access to the Ames rather than Andrew Card’s former assistant, Ali Al-TImimi, who shared a suite with the leading DARPA Ames researchers and had unrestricted access to the repository managed by the scientist who later was lead FBI scientist Jason B.

Ayman Zawahiri in his planning memoranda indicated that the anthrax lab should be moved every 3 months or so to avoid detection. The walls were to be painted so that they could be wiped down with insecticide.

Has NYPD Intelligence interview Sufaat’s anthrax lab assistant Marwan Hadid Al-Suri?

Can Yazid Sufaat, now available for interviews, tell us about Dr. Ayman? Was he prickly like many EIJ members have said? Is he as fanatical as they say?

Yazid’s mother-in-law encouraged his religious studies. What were Dr. Ayman’s greatest personal influences? Qutb?

David Ignatius in a recent Washington Post column reports on a report by Danzig, involving interviews over the past 3 years of imprisoned Japanese cult members. Mr. Ignatius writes:

“A plan to spray anthrax failed because of a faulty sprayer, as did an attempt to blow anthrax powder.”

What was the strain used? Is Danzig departing from the previous conclusion that the attempt failed because a nonpathogenic (to humans) strain was used? (I believe it was surmised that Sterne incredibly was the strain being used). Sterne is used in animal challenges but is not harmful to humans.

Why did Malaysia release Al Qaeda’s bioweapons expert?
A U.S.-trained Al Qaeda microbiologist has been released from jail by the Malaysian government, prompting alarm among American counterterrorism officials.
