Congratulations to the quick action of the staff at the one store and to the FBI.

FBI: Man put mouse poison on food in Ann Arbor stores

    Charles E. Ramirez, The Detroit News 7:12 p.m. EDT May 3, 2016
    http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2016/05/03/mouse-poisom-ann-arbor-area/83894176/

Police and federal agents said they’ve arrested a man suspected of spraying food with a mouse poison mixture at Ann Arbor-area grocery stores.

The FBI said a tip from the public led to the suspect, whom they haven’t identified.

David Gelios, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Detroit Division, said the man admitted to contaminating food with a potentially hazardous liquid at the Whole Foods Market on West Eisenhower Parkway, a Meijer store on Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Plum Market on North Maple Road.

“The suspect has admitted to using a potentially hazardous material to contaminate food in several Ann Arbor-area grocery stores,” Gelios said. “Our joint investigation leads us to believe that this individual sprayed a liquid mixture of hand sanitizer, water and Tomcat mice poison on produce.”

The chemicals found in this mixture are a form of anti-coagulant, similar to what is found in medicines that have an anti-clotting function. Officials with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said they do not anticipate any adverse health effects on individuals who may have ingested potentially contaminated products.
In the meantime, the department’s food inspectors are in stores conducting follow-up assessments to determine the concentration of the liquid, officials said.

Jamie Clover Adams, the department’s director, warns consumers who think they may have purchased contaminated food at these stores to throw it away.

“Out of an abundance of caution and to protect public health and food safety, I encourage consumers to dispose of any foods purchased from salad bars, olive bars and ready-to-eat hot and cold food areas from these stores between mid-March and the end of April,” he said in a statement. “Although most of these types of foods may have already been eaten or disposed of, some may still be in refrigerators or freezers.

    Comment:

What sentence will this man receive? 10 years? 15 years? 20 years? 25 years?

Notice that the stores were across a wide range of chains and several localities in the area.

Who was he? A biochem major at the University who flunked out?

Terrorist Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Providing Material Support to Al Qaeda

Aswat’s conviction and the sentence imposed today – along with the other recent terrorism prosecutions by this Office, including of Sulaiman Abu Ghayth, Abu Hamza, and Khaled al Fawwaz – serve as further proof that justice in international terrorism cases continues to be delivered in American civilian courts.”

In late 1999, Aswat, along with co-defendants Mustafa Kamel Mustafa aka Abu Hamza, Ouassama Kassir and Earnest James Ujaama, attempted to establish a terrorist training camp in the United States to support al Qaeda, which has been designated by the U.S. Secretary of State as a foreign terrorist organization. Aswat conspired with Abu Hamza, Kassir and Ujaama to establish the terrorist training camp on a rural parcel of property located in Bly, Oregon. The purpose of the Bly camp was for Muslims to receive various types of training – including military-style jihad training – in preparation to fight jihad in Afghanistan. As used by the conspirators in this case, the term “jihad” meant defending Islam against purported enemies through violence and armed aggression, including, if necessary, by using murder to rid Muslim holy lands of non-believers in Islam.

In a letter faxed from Ujaama in the United States to Abu Hamza in the United Kingdom, the property in Bly was described as a place that “looks just like Afghanistan,” and the letter noted that the men at Bly were “stock-piling weapons and ammunition.” In late 1999, after transmitting the faxed letter, Abu Hamza directed Aswat and Kassir, both of whom resided in London and attended Abu Hamza’s mosque there, to travel to Oregon to assist in establishing the camp. On Nov. 26, 1999, Aswat and Kassir arrived in New York, and then traveled to Bly.

Aswat and Kassir traveled to Bly for the purpose of training men to fight jihad. Kassir told witnesses that he supported Usama Bin Laden and al Qaeda, and that he had previously received jihad training in Pakistan. Kassir also possessed a compact disc that contained instructions on how to make bombs and poisons. After leaving Bly, Aswat and Kassir traveled to Seattle where they resided at a mosque for approximately two months. While in Seattle, Kassir, in Aswat’s presence, provided men from the mosque with additional terrorist training lessons – including instructions on different types of weapons, how to construct a homemade silencer for a firearm, how to assemble and disassemble an AK-47 and how an AK-47 could be altered to be fully automatic and to launch a grenade. On another occasion, with Aswat sitting by his side, Kassir announced to the men in Seattle that he had come to the United States for martyrdom and to destroy, and he informed his audience that some of them could die or get hurt.

Aswat subsequently linked up with al Qaeda and received training at al Qaeda’s al Faruq training camp in Afghanistan, which was al Qaeda’s primary training camp and where recruits were trained in topics that included military tactics, weapons and explosives. Aswat remained in Afghanistan after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and after the United States invaded Afghanistan. A ledger recovered in September 2002 from an al Qaeda safe house in Karachi, Pakistan, listed a number of individuals associated with al Qaeda, including Aswat. The al Qaeda safe house was used by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, al Qaeda’s chief operational planner and the alleged planner of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Was botulinum toxin the poison used in this two-week course?

At Darunta Camp, Abu Khabab — who El-Shukrijumah was sending a fellow named Zubair for training — conducted training in chemical poisons. It was Yazid Sufaat who did the work with anthrax.

Expert Tucker addresses chemical weapons here.

    The Future of Chemical Weapons

Working in a crude laboratory at the Darunta terrorist training camp, eight miles south of Jalalabad, al-Masri led a group that experimented with several World War I-era chemical agents, including hydrogen cyanide, chlorine, phosgene, and mustard gas. After the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, U.S. troops searched the Darunta camp and found training manuals detailing the synthesis of nerve agents and how to enhance conventional explosives with toxic chemicals.

Dr. Tucker addresses biological weapons in a separate treatise on biological weapons and in his 2010 NATA briefing.

Bioweapons expert Jonathan Tucker noted in his 2010 NATO briefing that skeptics had pointed out numerous holes in the FBI’s “Ivins Theory” (and see 2013 book)

Although almost all educated Americans know the difference between chemical and biological weapons, some foreign press where english is a second language get them confused.

If Dr. Ayman does not understand that poisoning food or cattle or crops would violate the hadiths, then he needs to do more careful research or rely on those more expert in such matters.

Shaikh Anwar, could you help Dr. Ayman out here before your soul is lost too?

    • DXer said

Hey, did I mention that Shaikh Anwar was coordinating with Ali Al-Timimi, the fellow who shared a suite with the leading DARPA-funded Ames researchers who had their BL-3 work on Ames being down at Southern Research Institute in Frederick?

I realize that this sort of thing is outside the bailiwick of you postal inspectors, scientists and psychiatrists, but check it out before Dr. Ayman lets loose with a mass anthrax attack and you feel really bad for having been satisfied with an investigative result where you don’t know the what, when or why of the crime.

All I know is what I learned from Hardy Boys novels — but they always seemed to wrap things up with a way more satisfying explanation than you have.
