In his book, R. Scott Decker relies on emails written by Bruce Ivins to Pat Fellows and Mara Linscott that the FBI has failed to produce — and that has been culled from the emails produced.

One email from 2000 described “heavy drinking and hiding empty liquor bottles from his wife.”

Decker writes: “Ivins’s email messages now filled large notebooks in our office.”

Is that how the FBI rolls now? The agency withholds documents required to be produced under FOIA and then its retired employees rush to make money by spinning the withheld documents in $38 dollar books?

Why didn’t USAMRIID produce a copy of this email that the FBI reports seeing from September 2001 about computer back-ups?

There is a one-time opportunity here for USAMRIID IT, USAMRIID FOIA and JAG to produce all documents subject to FOIA requests. This email would not be exempt.

In its production, USAMRIID IT needs to take its instructions regarding the preservation of evidence from Army Command and recover any and all documents. Expert computer forensics help is available to the government.
