CASE CLOSED … what really happened in the 2001 anthrax attacks?

* Silicon Signature – what were samples 040030-2 and 040255-1 that showed Silicon Signature? If one was Flask 1030, what was the other? Dugway?

In evidence item 1B4377, from the November 2007 search, the FBI obtained the inventory sheet from Flask 1030, which contained genetically matching anthrax — and yet has not been produced it. It should be disclosed.

In his 2013 book on major unsolved crimes, Epstein writes in his chapter on the anthrax mailings:

“The NAS concluded that the FBI’s key assertion that its genetic fingerprinting showed that the killer anthrax could only have come from the flask in Ivins’ custody was flawed. …

The NAS report also raised questions as to where the anthrax was stolen from and where it was processed into powder. It revealed that the killer anthrax in the New York Post letter had a silicon content of “10 percent by mass.” Ivins ‘ lab anthrax had no silicon.”

Actually, Flask 1030 did. But not Flask 1029.

EJE continues: “The FBI had suggested that the silicon could have come naturally from the mixture of water and nutrients in which the anthrax was grown. But when the FBI attempted to test this theory by having the Lawrence Livermore National Lab grow anthrax in broth laced with silicon, it falled to match…

“IVINS has never had to add antifoam or any other chemical to his production method for producing Ames spores. The shaking of the shaker flasks in the broth production is not enough to create a need for antifoam or any similar product. He is not aware of any protocol used at USAMRIID which calls for the use of antifoam with Ames. The protocol for the aerosol challenges does not call for antifoam. IVINS showed SAs .. the difference beteween grown on agar and Ames grown in broth. They use broth-grown material for all of the challenges because the Ames preparations made that way are so clean in comparison to agar-grown material.”
