A new report on the Pearl Kidnapping points to the point role of Egyptian Saif al-Adel in encouraging KSM to make it an Al Qaeda operation.
It has previously been reported that a Karachi businessman Saud Memon owned the nursery where Pearl had been held captive and allegedly had been in the room for discussion relating to anthrax planning.
Was there a connection between Pearl kidnapping and anthrax planners?   Was Saif Adel involved in Al Qaeda’s anthrax planning along with Ayman Zawahiri, Mohammed Atef, and KSM?
Suspect in Pearl’s killing dies after interrogation: report

(AFP) – Nov 11, 2007

WASHINGTON (AFP) — A Pakistani businessman suspected of playing a role in the brutal 2002 killing of American journalist Daniel Pearl died earlier this year, shortly after being interrogated by US and Pakistani intelligence, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Pearl, a Karachi-based correspondent for the Journal, was kidnapped on January 23, 2002, and killed execution-style shortly after.

The newspaper said Karachi businessman Saud Memon became a key suspect in the case because he owned a nursery where Pearl had been held captive.

Citing an unnamed senior US law enforcement official, the report said Memon was interrogated by both US and Pakistani intelligence services.

The interrogation produced information that Memon was helping Al-Qaeda develop anthrax strains, the newspaper said.

He was “in a lot of the rooms where important things were being discussed,” the paper quotes the US official as saying. “He knew senior Al-Qaeda people, and was moving equipment and supplies.”

But Memon’s family members and human rights groups said that in April, the businessman was left in front of his Karachi home badly injured and emaciated, weighing just 80 pounds (36 kilograms), according to the report.

About a month later, he died from what was described as complications from meningitis and tuberculosis, the Journal said.

The FBI has not produced the forensic linguistics opinions done in Amerithrax — only its formal opinion that Bruce E. Ivins probably did not write the letters or envelopes.

Forensic linguistics opinions are also available, for example, in the Daniel Pearl case — involving some that I have suggested (e.g., KSM) were involved in helping with Al Qaeda’s anthrax program.

    Kidnapping of reporter Daniel Pearl

In a linguistic profile of a letter that accompanied the photos of Pearl with a gun to his head, forensic linguistics demonstrated that it was a non-native speaker of English who had learned UK English; indeed, it turned out the letter had been written by a Pakistani educated in the UK. Since the letter was posted on the Internet, copycats had access to documents, and forensic linguistics was utilized to separate those out.

Adel connected here to (anthrax planner) KSM – Adel was put under house arrest in Iran for years after 2001

Does Tarek know Adel from his decades living in same city?

Adel, a veteran al-Qaida chieftain and former colonel in the Egyptian army’s Special Forces, moved to Waziristan in 2010 from Iran, where he had been apparently restricted since 2002.

A close associate of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, alleged mastermind of 9/11, Adel, a 50-year-old Egyptian, is one of al-Qaida’s senior strategists who sat on its military committee.

He has been linked to the Oct. 12, 2000, bombing of the USS Cole in Aden harbor that killed 17 sailors, and to the U.S. embassy bombings in East Africa Aug. 7, 1998, that killed more than 200 people.

Adel — real name Muhammad Ibrahim Makkawi — has a $5 million U.S. bounty on his head and is wanted in the United States for allegedly training the 9/11 suicide attackers.

Saudi-born Adnan Shukrijuma, 35, is one of the few al-Qaida leadership cadre who has actually lived in the United States. That makes him a key figure in the reported efforts to plan attacks inside the United States.

He is a naturalized U.S. citizen. His family moved to Florida in 1985 where he studied computer engineering and started moving in Islamist circles before going underground following 9/11.

He has a $5 million U.S. bounty on his head but has eluded a global manhunt for a decade. Al-Qaida leader Abu Zubaydah, captured in Pakistan March 28, 2002, told CIA interrogators of several al-Qaida plots.

One involved “Jaafar the pilot” — Shukrijuma in one of his many disguises — who he said would deliver an “American Hiroshima” using radioactive bombs.

But it wasn’t until Khalid Sheik Mohammed, who was captured in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, March 1, 2003, spilled the beans about the elusive Shukrijuma that the Americans realized he had lived right under their noses in Fort Lauderdale for years.

Hey, Saif Adel, if you and your GREEN TEAM were so good at espionage and secrecy (and later anthrax planning), why is it that I have the pleasure of reading so many memos to the files and to each other?
Writing memos about cell security, well, er, is pretty stupid.

This file to the memo listing all the GREEN TEAM memos was filed from Khartoum, Sudan in 1994. Please avert your eyes if you don’t have the necessary clearance.

The former Zawahiri associate supplied virulent Ames by Bruce Ivins, Tarek Hamouda, got his PhD from Cairo Medical in 1993 (see discussion of Ayman’s sister Heba in Microbiology) and came to the US in 1996.

According to “Tawfiq” Hamid, author of the May 2010 INSIDE JIHAD, Tarek had lived in Khartoum where his mother taught accounting at the University. He would visit Cairo as a child.

What did Tarek do from 1994–1995 after he got his PhD in microbiology but before he came to Detroit’s Wayne University? Did he spend it in Cairo or did he spend it in Khartoum?

Did he know any of the GREEN TEAM members from Khartoum? I believe that is Al Qaeda’s future spymaster listed who wrote the treatise on Amerithrax (and poked fun at the US for not detecting Aldrich Ames).

Hey, CIA, it’s gotta hurt when Ayman Zawahiri’s circle is snickering at you about Aldrich’s rolexes.

The first thing some key FBI people did in Fall 2001 was to fly to Khartoum and ask about WMD. But with the key 16 pages first being faxed by Art F. on February 2005, it seems that they were not asking the pertinent questions.

Amerithrax represents the greatest failure in the history of US intelligence analysis…

Unless of course, there was always a CIA RED TEAM that has matched your GREEN TEAM from day one and the closing of Amerithrax is just part of a grand intelligence operation intended to capture the likes of Ayman himself.

Nowadays, is it really possible to know who is cooperating with who?

On Wednesday evening of January 20, 1993 (26th of Rajab, 1413), Brother Abu Hafs
summoned us to his house in Peshawar after the evening prayer. He told us to cancel all
of our personal plans, such as marriage, travel, and other things, and to prepare for a
mission to travel to Kenya and Somalia. …

The mission was given to me, Sayf al-Islam, to travel with these Brothers because
Brother Sayf al-Adel was going to stay in Pakistan. A number of orders were given,
    among them:
1: Keep the group in an isolated house where we can undertake the requested measures
to prevent unwanted meddling, even from people with good intentions. This is so we
could shave our beards, buy European-style clothing, and travel a number of times to
Islamabad to reserve tickets to travel by ourselves.
2: A quick training session was given by Brother Haydarah al-Argentini on
Transportation Routine and Travel Procedures, and a second training session on
Reconnaissance Strategy was given by Brother Abu Walid, in English.
3: This enabled the individual to perform every travel procedure on his own.

outlined our three goals for the region:

1 – Find a location for military operations that would replace Afghanistan
2 – The location must be near the Arab region
3 – Attempt to help the brothers in Somalia and Ogaden

    Al-Qaeda’s ‘International Operations Wing’

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/terrorism-in-the-uk/8247043/Al-Qaedas-International-Operations-Wing.html

Saif al-Adel, or “Sword of the Just” is said to have helped develop al-Qaeda’s strategy for “small-but-often attacks.”

Also known by the names Muhammad Ibrahim Makkawi, Ibrahim Al-Madani and Omar al-Sumali, he was born in Egypt and served as a colonel in the country’s Special Forces before turning to terrorism.

He was arrested in 1987 along with several others, accused of plotting to drive a truck bomb into Egypt’s parliament building or trying to crash an aircraft into it – both tactics al-Qaeda later used to devastating effect.

Adel allegedly worked as an instructor at al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and Somalia, and helped train the men behind the 1998 bombings of US embassies in east Africa.

Although now close to the al-Qaeda leadership, he wrote a letter carried on jihadi web forums in 2002, criticising Osama bin Laden for launching the September 11 attacks.

He wrote a strategy document in 2005 that said most Islamist movements failed because their “actions were mostly random” and called for al-Qaeda to focus on “the greater objective, which is the establishment of a state”.

It is thought that he was held under house arrest in Iran along with a number of other al-Qaeda fugitives, with his five children and wife Wafa, the daughter of another al-Qaeda leader.

In April last year reports emerged that he had been released along with Saad bin Laden, Osama bin Laden’s son, in an exchange for an Iranian diplomat kidnapped by al-Qaeda in Pakistan
