CASE CLOSED … what really happened in the 2001 anthrax attacks?

* Congressman Rush Holt … Washington bureaucrats may believe this matter (the FBI’s anthrax investigation) is over, but I do not … Holt calls for comprehensive Congressional Commission

The New York Times says the FBI’s anthrax case has “too many loose ends.” Find out where some of those looses ends might have originated in my novel CASE CLOSED. Sure it’s fiction, but many readers, including a highly respected member of the U.S. Intelligence Community, think my premise is actually “quite plausible.”

Getting Answers on Anthrax

The FBI investigation into the 2001 anthrax attacks – which evidently originated from a postal box in Princeton – was botched from the beginning. In closing the case last month, the FBI said they got their man – they were sure, just as they were sure they had their man the first time, whom they had to pay $6 million essentially for false arrest.

Washington bureaucrats may believe this matter is over, but I do not, nor do the families of the victims, the postal workers, and other residents of our region from whom I’ve heard.  We deserve and need to know what happened and that our government is ready for another bioterrorism attack.

Last week, I succeeded in including an amendment to an intelligence bill requiring the government to examine the possibility of a foreign connection to the anthrax attacks. Beyond that, what is needed is a comprehensive investigation, ideally in the form of a bipartisan, Congressional commission, to examine the many questions regarding the investigation.

Evanina started his federal law enforcement career with the FBI’s New Jersey field office, in Newark in 1996. He was the spokesman for the office in the years after the 9/11 and Anthrax terrorists attacks, and later led a joint terrorism task force for the office.

From 2006 to 2008, he led the FBI’s Trenton office, which is now located in Hamilton. Evanina, from his media role, spoke for the office himself, regularly updating reporters on cases and investigations.

A September 4, 2004 FBI interview, Ivins demonstrated that just by searching the word “Ames” resulted in over 1200 emails. Only a fraction of his emails are being produced.

For insight on all these issues, to include the insight gained from extensive time with Dr. Ivins and extensive email correspondence, Patricia Fellows would be the most important interview. She likely was extremely angry at Ivins after he accessed her email without her permission.

As of 2003, Patricia Fellows joined Southern Research Institute in Frederick as a Research Scientist and manager of the Frederick BSL-3 laboratory. She received her Master’s of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Hood College, Frederick, Md. in 1992, and has 15 years experience in biomedical research. Fellows was previously with the United States Army Medical Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), where she spent a number of years in research focused in the area of bacterial vaccine discovery and development. Her research interests include studying the phenotypic characteristics of diverse isolates of Bacillus anthracis; reasons for variations in virulence among isolates of B. anthracis; anthrax vaccine efficacy testing in several laboratory animal models; passive immunization against anthrax infection; and the use of vaccine adjuvants and immune modulators.

Tarek Hamouda thanked Pat Fellows for providing technical assistance related to his work alongside Bruce with virulent Ames.
