The FBI’s case against Dr. Ivins is clearly bogus: no evidence, no witnesses, an impossible timeline, science that proves innocence instead of guilt.
So what really happened? And why? The “fictional” scenario in my novel CASE CLOSED has been judged by many readers, including a highly respected official in the U.S. Intelligence Community, as perhaps more plausible than the FBI’s unproven assertions.

Already, after 30 minutes or so, the two ranking members of the Committee have both told Mueller that, in essence, they do not accept or believe the FBI’s accusations against Bruce Ivins. The Democratic Chairman of the Committee, Pat Leahy (who was a target of the anthrax attacks) told Mueller categorically that he simply does not believe that Ivins was the prime culprit if he was a participant at all, and said he is absolutely convinced that there were others involved in the preparation and mailing of the anthrax. Leahy began the hearing by identifying the U.S. Army’s Dugway Proving Ground and the private CIA contractor Battelle Corporation — but not Fort Detrick — as the only two institutions in the U.S. capable of producing anthrax of the strain that was sent to him and Sen. Daschele. Leahy asked Mueller whether he was aware of any other institutions capable of producing the anthrax, and when Mueller — amazingly though unsurprisingly — claimed he couldn’t answer, Leahy demanded that he obtain the answer during a break and tell the Committee today what the answer is.

A long while ago I asked Dr. Voss and Dr. Franz (and I believe perhaps Patricia Fellows, Dr. Ivins’ close colleague who later headed the BL-3 lab there) when SRI first obtained virulent Ames but no one responded on the particular issue.
The FBI’s anthrax expert has posted his email and offered to answer any questions about the dried powder he made at USAMRIID for DARPA. ( ezzella55@aol.com )
I have no idea if Dr.Ezzell would be in a position to help but he formally posted his phone and email on Meryl’s blog and offered to answer any questions about the dried powder he made for DARPA. He remained unresponsive on the narrow issue of whether what he made for DARPA showed a silicon signature. (He apparently had wanted just to emphasize that testing showed that it had been irradiated in the slurry.)
So one hypothesis worth exploring is that Southern Research is a third place they made weaponized anthrax for biodefense purposes — in addition to Dugway and Battelle. They were a DARPA contractor/subcontractor. The hypothesis is that is the place FBI Director Mueller needed a closed session to identify to Leahy in response to his question at a hearing that, I believe, was raised by Senator Leahy: was there any other place that they made weaponized powder for biodefense purposes?
In legal opinions production of weaponized material in small amounts was deemed consistent with treaty obligations. See, e.g., Milton Leitenberg’s 2003 treatise.

USAMRIID’s delay in producing the email was inexcusable and there should be Congressional hearings on the issues left unanswered because of the delay orchestrated by these agencies funded by taxpayers.
My source of intelligence on these emails (which is batting 100%) advises me that remaining emails — in addition to not supporting the Ivins Theory have additional emails that are affirmatively exculpatory of Dr. Ivins. The withholding of the emails for two years (with FBI/DOJ vetting the production by USAMRIID) has been inexcusable.

Can anyone please show me a better way to wade thru all the posts and presented documents on Lew’s page? I don’t know how anyone can keep it all straight from his page. I want so badly to read all the posted info and to be able to keep it straight. I read alot of other message boards on other topics and those formats are easy to follow a thread. But it is really hard to follow a thread here. I tried using a newsreader, but still to read the whole topic and responding posts it requires returning to the wordpress page and trying to wade thru the disorganization. How are you guys able to respond and follow? BTW…why not just have folks join so they don’t have to each time enter their email address? It is a little concerning that privacy isn’t real clear.
